As ‘the man’ said, this is a lot of fun. Do check your brain at the door, some of the things they do with those airplanes fair can’t happen, but it clear does develop a large epic. If you want a generous laugh, assume this video! I laughed so hard, I was nearly rolling on the floor! lol! Like this one scene… roflmao! What are you waiting for? Capture it!

Now this is something original. A romantic/comedy state on a Japanese air foul. “Airbats” does a astronomical job of combining romance with some very comic humor. The characters are all very loyal and you can’t encourage but root for the couples to fetch together. The flight scenes kick butt. You can look this with your girlfriend.

my kids never heard of the Littles and the DVD gave them a lot of fun!

Before the television series there was the theatre release to the Littles that started the series off. Based on the beloved children book series about little people with tails living in the walls of people’s houses. By the time this show reached its third season, the joke was getting a little thinly spread. The plots became further away from the initial concept of two lab mice wanting to take over the world and more a showcase for the two lead characters’ interaction. This however is not a criticism.

In TV the word ‘formula’ is dreaded. However, here the characters remain so endearing that the blueprint of every plot being vitually the same did not matter.

Most episodes followed this arc: -

1. Brain has a bizarre idea as to how to take over the world

2. To carry out this plan some equipment/money is needed

3. Brain comes up with an even more bizarre way to get said equipment/money

4. The plan fails due to Pinky’s stupidity

5. The initial plan to take over the world is abandoned

Although there are exceptions, that basically sums up this and the previous two seasons but as the saying goes – If ain’t broke don’t fix it – and this formula was one that bore a lot of comedy fruit.

This show certainly beats some of the dross that graces our screens these days and had the nerve to demand that its audience had some intelligence.

Not laugh-a-minute but still a classic.

I still can’t believe that no-one has decided to revive these characters to star in a live-action movie (with CGI P&B of course).

pinky and the brain has to be my favorite cartoon of all time. from bizzare plans to take over the world to even more bizarre plans to make those bizzare plans work, pinky and the brains shenanigans never get old. i grew up watching pinky and the brain, and they never get old. Strange and interesting characters, ranging from brains nemesis snowball, to pinky’s horse/girlfriend, as well as the occasional anamaniac apperances, round out the outrageous cast of the show. The joy that they seem to take in slamming bill clinton and other famous figure (although mostly clinton), is just so infectious that you cant help but laugh. And even better are the deep themes that appear if you watch closely enough, but dont affect the hilarity of the show if you dont notice them, makes the show fun to watch for everyone. i even wrote a paper on one of the episodes for my compostion class. there will never be another cartoon of pinky and the brains caliber. this show is the perfect thing to enjoy with your children and friends. it may take some convincing to get them to watch, but once they do they will be hooked.

Only Robert Redford’s 2nd directorial effort, this film is purely from the heart. This is a true ensemble piece, worthy of Altman, and Redford’s love of the land is quite appropriate. I was most impressed with the fact that this film is about Mexican/Native American types, and found no need for sex, drugs, blood or real violence (that stuff seems to prevail when regarding cultural differences). How refreshing. Foremost is the fact that this has a whimsical element of fantasy, and a quasi David/Goliath subtext. I was especially amused when the old man was playing chess with the Angel (a bit of Bergman, perhaps?). Aside from the gorgeous vistas of New Mexico, beautifully photographed, it is Dave Grusin’s Oscar-winning score that is most intriguing (it’s ONLY Oscar nomination). The lovely guitar of Angel Romero is prevalent throughout, adding to Grusin’s 5/8 time with endless modulations, suggesting that this is a land that will go on forever. The acting is wonderful, without exception. The previous reviewers have all failed to mention how strong Chick Vennera was in the lead role. So very handsome, and so un-self-conscious. A wonderful performance. If there would be a second lead, it would have to be Carlos Riquelme as the old geezer that everyone thinks is nuts, but actually talks to Angels. Sonia Braga, John Heard, Daniel Stern, Nancy Mandragon, and especially, James Gammon, were all solid. I love this film a lot, because it really makes me feel good. And that music…it stays with you. Quite haunting. I recommend this film for families; no matter how poor you might be, financially, standing up for yourself and your integrity can make you rich beyond your wildest dreams.

Charming, feel good, witty, captivating, intriguing, delightful. These are just a few of the ways to describe this wonderful film. And that’s just the story. The acting, the music, the direction and cinematography will all grab you from the first frame and not let go of you until the last, at which point you will wish there was more.

He should really turn it off, shouldn’t he? But he doesn’t..and so it begins…”The Milagro Beanfield War”. The poor townspeople must decide whether to take a stand together against the rich and powerful land developers. “Milagro” means miracle…just what this town will need!

The characters in this town will steal your heart, and have you rooting for them throughout the film. The fiesty Sonia Braga, who is Ruby the auto mechanic tries to work the apathetic town into standing up to what’s right for them. Ruben Blades is marvelous as the town sherriff, caught between his loyalty and the law. A mesmerizning Carlos Riquelme is “Amarante”, the elder of the town who is able to talk to and get advice from a delightful angel, and you won’t want to miss one word of the conversations. Rounding the cast out nicely is John Heard, Daniel Stern, James Gammon, Melanie Griffith, and Christopher Walken, who adds his special touches as well.

Beautifully directed(as always) by Robert Redford, with a well deserved Academy Award winning score by Dave Grusin, one that really fits the mood of this film, and a story and characters you can really feel for, this is a not to be missed film.

Sam Peckinpah’s ‘The Wild Bunch’ is a masterpiece western. Not the best ever made, but conclude. So don’t judge I don’t like this movie because I care for it. However, since Mexicans are its villains, perhaps you’d be alive to to read an thought from this side of the border.

The Mexico of ‘The Wild Bunch’ looks more like a metaphor than a right station. It is both Heaven and Hell; the theatre where the bunch will obtain Death but also Redemption. Accordingly, every Mexican depicted in the represent is either a saint or a monster (no middle ground here, except for the Mexican member of the Bunch, who is aptly named “Angel”, although a fallen one) . This serves the fable splendidly, for it’s meant to be an account ballad and not a travelogue, but it does jolt the Mexican viewer because the “estimable Mexico” is portrayed so idyllic it’s unreal, while the “poor Mexico” is very, very accurate; in fact, no American movie has captured the glance, sound, feel, texture and carnage of the Mexican Revolution as this one has (even if the grandiose final scene, where the Bunch kills hundreds of heavily armed soldiers all by themselves and none of the four falls down even when riddled by bullets, defies all logic!) . Perhaps that’s why it was banned in Mexico serve when it was released in 1969.

Funny, for it was filmed in Mexico as well. The Texas bordertown you spy at the begining of the epic is actually Parras, Coahuila, and many of its citizens acted as extras in the movie: white ones as “Texans”, brown ones as -what else? – Mexicans! Don Raúl Madero, brother of Francisco I. Madero, the man who started the Mexican Revolution, appears …as a Texan! Even the two German officers are Mexican! So, as you can perceive, we Mexicans advance in all shapes, sizes and colors, and hardly fit these two dumb “honorable peasant”-”greaser bandito” stereotypes American movies seem so comfortable with! I hope some day Hollywood realizes this and “hurry the extra mile” to record us for what we are: a very complex and diverse society. Neither saints, nor monsters, and certainly not mere bowling pins!

P.S.: Many mammoth Mexican directors, all personal friends of Peckinpah, appear in the film. Emilio “Indio” Fernández (Mapache) and Chano Urueta (Angel’s grandfather) were the best of our cinema’s Golden Age. Fernando Wagner (German officer) was also a competent theatre director, and Alfonso Arau (Herrera) is best known for his international hit ‘Like Water for Chocolate’. Jorge Russek (Zamorra) was an outstanding photographer for National Geographic, and Sonia Amelio (Teresa) is a world-aclaimmed dancer (she was even awarded with an “Order of Lenin” assist in the Soviet Union) . And unprejudiced for the narrate, the word “Mapache” (”racoon”) stands for “coward thief”. No Mexican general, no matter how substandard, would exercise, I own, such a nickname! And since Mapache is “a killer working for Huerta”, the action takes site in 1913, not 1916 (Huerta was ousted in early 1914) .

There’s not distinguished that can be celebrated about Sam Peckinpah’s intelligent 1969 western tale “The Wild Bunch” that has not already been written. It was an unanticipated, influential work where all things came together, but for a moment, the slay product a gigantic, sweeping canvas of intimacy between comrades, violence between combatants, desperate exasperate amidst changing times. Fragment Kurosawa, portion Siegel, fraction Fuller, portion Ford, Peckinpah combined his inspirations with a healthy dose of 1960s rebellion producing the ultimate work of his generation, and one of the greatest westerns in history. It was Peckinpah’s grand fortune that the proper actors were available for this film – William Holden and Robert Ryan in the twilight of their memorable careers, Ernest Borgnine with objective enough youth to be a perfect and true presence, Edmond O’Brien chewing up the scenery with tobacco-stained teeth, and of course Peckinpah friends Strother Martin, L.Q. Jones and Warren Oates in salty supporting roles. It was also his stout fortune cinematographer Lucien Ballard and composer Jerry Fielding were also on hand to participate in his steadfast vision.

Peckinpah also had something to demonstrate at this point in his career, when he was level-headed a hungry director with a vision, before alcoholism, disillusionment and celebrity plot took occupy. He hid nothing from viewers, and his contradictory heart was laid bare in “The Wild Bunch.” The direction and editing during the violent moments of this film – the opening bank robbery and the concluding battle with the Mexican army – are some of the most unforgettable scenes ever achieve on film. But ironically, and this was usually the case in most Peckinpah films, it is the calm moments one remembers. Pike (Holden) and Dutch’s (Borgnine) dismal conversation next to a campfire; The Bunch riding out of Angel’s village as if in a funeral procession; Deke (Ryan) taking Pike’s pistol from it’s holster, gently holding it in his hand; and of course Pike standing in the doorway and mouthing two simple words, “Let’s go.”

And of course you have The Perambulate, in which Holden, Borgnine, Oates and Ben Johnson quietly launch loading their guns, cocking them, arming themselves, smiling at one another, standing shoulder to shoulder. There’s not remarkable left for these forgotten outlaws who have lived past their time. Fair a code of honor, fair their self respect. And so they Plod into the heart of the Mexican army to retrieve their comrade Angel, a prisoner and personal enemy of General Mapache. These surviving members of The Wild Bunch are free to go, but Angel, youthful, love-struck, rebellious, was one of them. They are not going to leave their comrade.

After viewing the incredible documentary “The Wild Bunch: An Album In Montage” and seeing the rare footage of Peckinpah literally improvising The Shuffle, walking alongside Holden, Borgnine, Oates and Johnson, inventing by instinct, one realizes how fiercely creative this man was as a director. This film was his moment in time, his vision, his view, Peckinpah’s nightmarish and improbable dream.

Peckinpah never really made a film quite like “The Wild Bunch” again. Of course, no director ever really has before or since. His uneven career of 14 films, some capable, some not, has been noted and honored. Peckinpah the man, adorned in used jeans and bandanna, certainly perpetuated his myth-like residence. But in the destroy, you will always have “The Wild Bunch,” an unforgettable film, raw, gritty, whiskey-soaked, sublime. I bellow whenever I peep this film. I sob in panic. All things came together for Peckinpah on “The Wild Bunch,” and the moment is everlasting.

Ok before I launch, let me define something: Unlike the reviewers before me, I have actually SEEN this movie, so my review is not based on the graphic original of which the movie is based, nor what the movie might be like based on who’s late the making of it. I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE. Now that thats out the blueprint, onto the expedient stuff.

I know a lot of Batman, Superman, and Batman/Superman fans were holding their breath on this one. With all classic the DC Silly character movies coming out lately (some of them not as wonderful as others) it was reasonable to purchase that “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” the movie could have gone either arrangement. Well satisfactory thing for the trusty fan rank, this was definitely a hit. I can say I am more then glad with how this came out, and I have every scheme of buying this DVD and watching it again the day it comes home with me.

One thing is abundantly sure when watching this movie: WB Entertainment, and more importantly, DC Comics actually LISTENS to their fans. One of my (and others) biggest fears in this was that we were going to be hearing some sub-par stammer acting for the main characters eager, i.e. Superman, Batman, and Lex Luthor. As with past offerings from WB Entertainment (”Superman: Doomsday” for example) we got some frail casting for the voices of Lex and Sups. That alone detracts greatly from the overall enjoyment of the movie. With Public Enemies however, we have the best voices ever cast for the starring 3 roles: Tim Daily as Superman, Kevin Conroy as Batman, and Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor. For those who could give two flips about these guys, they are the same voices from the approved shows Justice League Unlimited, Batman The Tantalizing Series, and Superman the Though-provoking Series.

On top of advantageous vow acting, the animation is crisp, interesting and honest stupid lovely. Again, faithful to fan feedback, the artists from Justice League Unlimited seem to have had their hands in this project, because the art is magnificent distinguished the same (which is by no means a dreadful thing), and it looks mammoth. Almost straight from the droll.

Speaking of which, as far as the memoir goes, support in mind while watching this that its an adaptation to the silly. That being said however, the movie stays remarkably faithful to the tale told in the droll. Minus a few altered frames, scenes and situations, its like reading the funny all over again, except with no imagination needed to indulge in it. The legend in general is a very superb one, highlighting Batman and Superman’s friendship and giving you a recognize into how deep it really goes. Granted, you score more of that in the funny then you do in the movie, but the movie compensates for the lack of inner dialogue with pleasant script writing, fleshy of the droll exchanges between Sups and Bats and emotional moments and outburst we know and cherish from our popular caped heroes.

This is a tremendous movie, and you don’t have to have read the comical first in order to appreciate it. Even the review value is moderately high, I can and WILL be watching this again as soon as I can, and some more times after that. This is worth stamp, grab it and like a motion narrate work of art.

So I watched Superman/Batman:Public Enemies twice in one day after I got it. And I will hold this review short as most of the main points have been hit by the people who reveiewed this already (at least the ones that waited till it came out) . So here’s my demolish down and the extinguish will be final comments.

STORY:

It was adpated from Jeph Loeb’s first arc on the ongoing laughable. Esteem it or disapprove it, but it was a very faithful adaptation, streamlining something that was basically a position up for the subsequent arcs as well as Infinite Crisis. It was droll, and balls to the wall, and the only gripe I had was not explaining why the Robot was a better choice than Luthor’s missles (Respond, robot was made of Metallo, not the guy, the alloy.) But hey all and all I liked what they did.

Characters (exclaim and portrayal) :

WHOA! Okay I read the comics and almost forgot the laundry list of vilains who reach out the cracks for the bounty. Batman and Superman were pitch perfect and their banter was stout after seeing them so serious with each other all the time in Justice League and JLU. Tim Daly returning for Superman was sizable to have, though I’m one of the few that feel George Newburn’s performance as the character is impartial as superb. Kevin Conroy and Clancy Brown however are the quintessential Batman and Lex Luthor respectively. Props to getting CCH Pounder to return as Amanda Waller even if the charatcer model looked horrendous. Lastly the supporting charatcers were substantial. However I wonder why so considerable fuss was made about LeVar “Reading Geordi LeForge’s Rainbow” Burton as Sunless Lightning when he had one line. Killer Frost was a throwaway villain that had more to say. *Sigh* Wasted talent.

ART AND ANIMATION:

Again based on the source material, the art style took a muscular turn and was fully mimicing Ed McGuiness’ style where every male looks like a “Masters of the Uninverse” figure. I personally esteem his style and always though it would translate well to the hide. I was mostly lawful. They made Superman peep too young, and I judge it’s because of the eyes. McGuiness does the squinty watch better than most, and we survey this in Captain Marvel’s earn, and in the comics Superman has the same study sometimes. That plus the cheekbone line makes him behold a bit older. Well probably out of alarm of backlash (last time they assign lines on his face people said he looked too archaic, and in “Doomsday” he looked even older) they elft those lines out and he looks too young. Everyone else in my idea looked handsome. Okay Powergirl’s eyes bugged me too but I was distracted by something else.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I liked it. It was a substantial action flick, and didn’t need too remarkable character development. It’s Superman and Batman, if you don;t know who they are why are you even picking up te movie. It’s a buddy flick with wall to wall action. My biggest speak is it felt rushed. At 67 minutes it’s like 15 minutes shorter than previous releases and could have really benefitted from them. That said if you like the characters and you like action this is worth it.

AFTERTHOUGHT:

The preview for the next upcoming entertaining feature, Jusitce League: Crisis on Two Earths was tremendous. Yes I know after Public Enemies going encourage to modern voices will suck but they got some superb ones. Stamp Harmon makes a comely first-rate Superman, I’m on the fence for Billy Baldwin as Batman (needs to be grittier), James Woods does an amazingly devious and zigzag Owlman, and Gena Torres was stout as SuperWoman. Hope you bask in!

The envoy (hunky Italian actor Daniele Liotti) doubts that the followers of Jesus are anything but frauds until he falls in love with a beautiful young woman named Tabitha (Monica Cruz, Penelope’s just as lovely little sister) who opens his eyes to another world. The Final Inquiry spruces up a classic story of finding faith by mixing in moments straight out of Mission: Impossible and CSI, but such elements will be inoffensive to Christians and entertaining to secular viewers. More problematic is the dubbing (a bit hard to understand at times and woefully hammy at others) and the often clumsy fight scenes. The producers try to class up the joint by casting F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus) as Tabitha’s father and Max von Sydow (The Seventh Seal, Hannah and Her Sisters), but it’s actually Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV) as the envoy’s German slave who makes the strongest impression–his mammoth frame and melancholy eyes suit the Biblical milieu perfectly. –Bret Fetzer
